2019 Security Summit
Network and data security was the centerpiece of a three-day Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA)-hosted Endpoint Security Summit that took place in early February 2019. Over 250 Department of Defense (DOD) endpoint security subject matter experts, system administrators, analysts, and users came together to discuss endpoint modernization efforts. DISA, the DOD Chief Information Officer (CIO), U.S. Cyber Command (CYBERCOM), and Joint Force Headquarters – DOD Information Network (JFHQ-DODIN) representatives discussed policy and operational strategies that will drive significant change in endpoint security during 2019 and beyond. When it comes to protecting networks and data, endpoint security is critical to safeguarding against unauthorized access and malicious intent, particularly when networks are accessed remotely by laptops or other wireless mobile devices. Remote access helps maximize efficiency for users. Unauthorized access vulnerabilities continue to be a challenge for network administrators. In addition to implications for national security, effective endpoint security—ensuring secure connectivity—supports one of the eight mandated criteria set forth for federal websites and apps under the recent 21st Century Integrated Digital Experience Act—”21st Century IDEA”.
